General Meeting 2!

To start GM 2 on a high note, we played energisers organised by Operations! Human Bingo is a game where everyone gets a sheet of paper with a grid, and there will be various characteristics or personal habits in the boxes in the grid. (eg. I have more than 4 siblings, I prefer KFC to Macdonalds etc.) The objective of the game is to get people who fulfill the criteria in the box to sign on it, and you win once you get a straight line of signatures.
Following that, Wanyi represented ONE in giving us several talks, reminding us about our purpose, and the attitude and mindset we should adopt as a PSL.
At the same time, she introduced two new initiatives, one of them being Classical Tuesdays! As can be seen, it'll be held every Tuesday with your Classics to encourage bonding and non-work related interaction between PSLs. The second would be Morning Meetings, where each PSL will meet their assigned one from ONE before morning assembly.
We were then briefed on the very exciting upcoming events Special Projects was organising, FAW and the VTC board. Do spread the message that 'School Can Be Cool' and encourage your friends to visit the VTC board!
Finance also clarified the change in name from PSB CIP to PSB FAITH.
We also had presentations from Communications regarding the PSB website http://www.rgs.edu.sg/psb, go and visit it now! And also the PSB page on facebook. A very gentle reminder from Communications, please 'like' all the posts made on the facebook page as it will then appear on other's news feeds. (:
Human Resource briefed us on the procedures of the board awards. The thrre awards are The Teddy Bear Award, Outstanding leadership award, and the Outstanding commitment award.
Then, we had the surprise birthday celebration for the birthday babies organised by HR! We played Balloon Monster, where we got into groups of 6 where there would be one birthday girl, the objective was to stick on as many balloons as possible onto the birthday girl! They then had to do the chicken dance and hop around the CLC, it was a comical sight seeing their balloons drop off as they jumped around :D Here are some photos!

I love Rachel's expression here!(:
Lastly, we had a small celebration where everyone brought out the snacks they brought and we split into our buddy groups to sit down and chat over some finger snacks. HR also gave each of us a little ticket as souvenirs!

Orientation- Wrap up

Here are some reflections on the whole experience of orientation:

Sec one orientation was such a wonderful experience for me, every single moment of it. As cliched as it might sound, it really taught me the heart about being a PSL, how being a PSL is really about loving those around you. Through the crazy week of activities, I learnt the value in doing the small things, about how they are important despite being overlooked. Example, when the sec ones see me and start waving to me frantically with so much eagerness and excitement, it just brings me so much joy. Though their actions might be simple- just a wave, it really helped me think back to the reason why I became a PSL- to love those around me, when it got tiring and stressful. My classics were also seriously amazing, so this is a shout out to them: CHINGYEE, FUIJIN, VANESSA, XINHUI, SHUYING I LOVE YOU GUYS!

PSB, always treasure the orientation experience, and come out of it a stronger, better person, with a greater purpose and passion for PSB! <3

THANK YOU GUYSS!
-Hui Zhen

Saying that the Sec 1 Orientation was a blast would definitely be an understatement. It was absolutely terrific! :) I enjoyed every single minute of it and it was quite a memorable experience, viewing orientation from a PSL point of view. On the other hand, the showering for the Year 1s was really rushed and chaotic. I think what had happened was that the classes which showered first used up too much time, leaving the second batch behind schedule, and that made Year 1s late for RI. Some Year 1s even told me that they didn't get a chance to shower. Moreover, the classes didn't really go to their designated toilet, everyone was scrambling all over the place. It would be very much appreciated if it was more organized (though it's like this every year). :D But the rest are really great and I think that the Sec 1s absolutely loved it too. It was really heartening to see them grow so much within a week!!!

ORIENTATION WAS SOOOO FUN!! :D I've really learnt a lot from it but I just don't know how to put it into words. It feels really great to see and hear that the Year Ones enjoyed themselves! :D I enjoyed myself too!! Although I do think that maybe they could tell us to start preparing slightly earlier (like for the certificate) so we can have more time to prepare and all :/ All in all, it was awesome and an experience I will remember FOREVER and would DEFINITELY do it again! :)
-Caitlin

Orientation 2011 is truly a very memorable event for me, one that I will never ever forget! Through this experience, I gained a lot of exposure and also got to know awesome friends and juniors! It really made me believe the influence PSLs have on Sec 1 juniors. I remembered my class being unresponsive for the first few days, not cheering loudly or behaving in any enthusiastic way. However, when we(PSLs) encouraged them to do so and demonstrated to them, there slowly came a response and in the end, 113 was anything but enthusiastic and bonded J
Being a part of Orientation, it has certainly reignited my Rafflesian spirit as well! My spirit somehow started to die down ever since all those PTs came in last year. However, this Orientation has definitely made me recreate my identity as an RGS girl. While cheering and conducting PSL sessions with the Year 1s, I start to feel the sense of satisfaction and the purpose of being a true RafflesianJ
Of course, apart from the good things, there are also some areas for improvement. For example, perhaps we should inform the Sec 1s about the change in schedule on an earlier date so that everybody (including the PSLs) can be informed, and also about the bathing time. But on the whole, Orientation is really really AWESOME!
Thank ya 113 CLASSICS! CRYSTAL, KIT YIN, SHAUNA AND LIMIN! I LOVE YOU!
-Cheng Yin

I guess this marks the end of Orientation'11, I'm sure everyone has learnt something from this whole experience! Keep the passion burning!

Orientation- Station games!

THE EXCITING AND ABSOLUTELY THRILLING STATION GAMES!(:

Station games was one of the main highlights of the orientation programme! It was held near the end of orientation, and it was definitely one of the main factors that bonded the Year 1 classes. Cheers resounded throughout the school as each class screamed their self- created class cheers to make their presence felt to the other classes, and of course to get more points and cheer their classmates on.

We started off with the Class Flag Parade, where all the nicely crafted class flags were presented!

Each class was to 'search' for missing pieces of a Lollipop by completing assigned classes at each station as a class, while keeping the appointed treasure keeper safe from the candymen who would be trying to take photos of the treasure keepers which would result in a loss of points!

The many stations proved to be very challenging yet extremely fun and engaging! Through the games, the Year 1s, (and us PSLs!) learnt many things, such as the importance of teamwork, communication, and of course perseverance. The Year 1s cheered each other on and kept their spirits up. Here are some photos:

invaders!

After all their stations, using all the parts that they collected, they pieced all the parts of the lollipop together which would reveal a word. All the words and symbols put together formed the line "WE HEART HOUSE :)"  That concluded Station Games 2011, I'm sure everyone has had a lot of fun and have learnt a lot from this experience!

Thank you Station Games Committee 2011!

Orientation- Badge Initiation

Badge initiation is an important and memorable event that every RGS girl goes through. It was the day that the year ones would complete their school uniform with the pinning on of the school badge and hence formally be part of the RGS community.

Pass it on!

After the ceremony, we started the passing of the flame from Mrs Hoo to Laura, to the rest of the PB heads 2010, and the SPSLs. The flame was then passed on to the PSLs who continued to pass it on to our Year 1s. We sang One Voice, Pass It On and Send It On (the orientation theme song for 2011).

Orientation- Raffles Initiation Sessions!

Raffles Initiation!

This was held for nearly all the days of orientation, and I the Sec 1s may have been scared off by the way we did our cheers on the first day, low and loud, but gradually, they warmed up to it and started feeling the school spirit and embraced our school culture! Many songs were also taught during the sessions, such as Dedication, One Voice, and their theme song, Send it On. We thank SIMU and all the prefects for leading the sessions, and also the whole of PB and PSB, who cheered their hearts out trying to spread the school spirit to our Year 1s(:
here are some photos of the RI sessions!

It only takes a spark, to get the fire going

Look out for more posts concerning orientation!

PSLTC! - 29- 30 Nov '10

PSB'11! <3
PSLTC was the first time PSB'11 met up together as a board. (:
Day 1

We were introduced to ONE, our heads for 2011, our PSB teachers, and finally our groups! Following that, we had Ice-Breakers and training on "What is Peer Support?"  And I'm sure everybody will remember that water chestnut drink with CHUNKY BITS!
After which we had our external trainers from Trybe whereby they introduced us to the DiSC behavioural tool and we had the DiSC Profile Personality Assessment.
After a long day, we had debriefs and everyone went back anticipating the following day which would prove more exciting than Day 1(:

Day 2

After Ice-Breakers and reflection sharing, we had the very exciting committee presentations where the SPSLs from the different committees went up to present the jobscopes of the different committees. Everyone got a chance to choose what committee they wanted to be in for rotation 1.
We had training on "Minute-Taking and Proposal Writing", after which we got to write a proposal with our groups under the mentoring of our SPSLs.
After lunch, the external trainers from Trybe came and together as a board, we attempted to complete the Moat Challenge, one of the rare times where RGS girls are deathly silent. With everyone cheering each other on, we didn't give up and finally completed it with a timing of 1:23:51!

The last people 'crossing the moat'. Look at everyone's faces hahahaha.

After which we had badge initiation where everyone wore the PSB shirt and the SPSLs helped us put on our badges and drew on the 'eye' for the dolphin behind our shirts. This signified the SPSLs guiding us through the PSB journey. We also sang our beloved board songs, At the Beginning, Truly madly Deeply, Send it On, and Voices That Care.

After dinner, we had the exhilarating, frightening, and exciting Night Surprise! Everyone had to put on blindfolds and we went on a trip around the school filled with surprises and obstacles. Some of our group mates were pulled away at times, and there was constant screaming all around us. Thank you SPSLs who sacrificed your voices to make this whole scenario possible(: And of course the SPSLs who lead us safely through the entire walk!

Finally we had reflections, a video, and a final debrief by ONE. And that's our very eventful PSLTC for you!(:
